First, I am really excited about being a mentor! I have thought about this sharing process and decided that support and resources are the most important thing you can give a new teacher. With all the demands and expectations of a first year (and even veteran teachers), duties can become very overwhelming. I think an open communication line and shoulder to lean on would be the one thing that a mentee needs. Resources also lessen valuable time and serve as a direction for the mentee. Veteran teachers have tons of great ideas, and they need to be shared. I will create a notebook of this ideas and "helpful hints" and schedule time for my mentee and I just to talk.

  1. I remember my first year of teaching like it was yesterday. I didn't have a great mentor. She was not in the classroom and was a little out of touch with things. Sabra Bowden and Pam Stone helped me acclimate to my environment. They both were available 24/7. I asked a lot of questions and cried a lot. I hope that I can be as good to my mentee's as my they were to me. I believe if I have an open door and open communication we will be ok.

  2. This class has brought some good memories about my 1st mentor Ana Maria RuaƱo. She was not only my mentor but my support life line at all times. She is the reason why I was able to survive my 1st year and to continue to be a happy teacher. For sure I want to pass my teaching knowledge and experience to all new teachers.

  3. The information I learned while attending our second class was wonderful. I was engaged in what we were learning and I feel my students would be as well. I would like to take a field trip to the school where is teaches and see it up close and personal. My mentee will be able to relax a little by using these strategies to help her students and it is fun.

  4. Jennifer was excellent. I have had the opportunity to see her mother a few times and she has learned from the best. The information was presented in a fun and energetic manner. I will definately use her ideas to introduce fun and exciting games in my classroom. I already use many of her ideas because they are exactly like Marcia Tates! One ideas that is great is using songs to dance while learning math strategies. I have always used fun songs in Kindergarten for learning! Jennifer gave examples for the upper grades to use to sing, dancel, and learn. She is an excellent presenter!
